“When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness, to surrender dreams, to seek treasure where there is only trash. Too much sanity may be madness! And maddest of all is to see life as it is and not as it should be!”
MIGUEL DE CERVANTES, MAN OF LA MANCHA (1972)
OUR
STORY
At the age of 10, I found myself sitting cross-legged on the living room floor, utterly transfixed by the film, Man of La Mancha.
I was enchanted as Miguel De Cervantes, a man wrongfully imprisoned and cast into the most dreary of dungeons, found the courage and creativity to lift the spirits of those around him by telling the tale of Don Quixote and his quest. Even if only for a moment, his story transformed their jail cell into a stage. Shackles became props, stone floors converted to sun-kissed meadows, and the sighs of his fellow prisoners shifted into poignant melodies.
Dulcinea, the true love of Quixote, is the personification of this metamorphosis from the discarded to the extraordinary. The embodiment of the idea that beauty, love, and joy can be found in any moment and in every human being.
I committed myself that day to the noble lifelong pursuit of service to others through the creation of transcendent art.
